London
What do we know about gender, the arts, and symbolic reparations? The first project event, held at King’s College London on 29-30 June 2017, discussed “Feminist Perspectives on Commemoration, Symbolic Reparation, and the Arts”. We asked participants to reflect on existing memory projects from a gender perspective, to analyse the meanings of gender and symbolic reparations, to investigate the presence or absence of women in commemorative projects, counter narratives, visual or oral representations of gendered memory, to highlight struggles for symbolic reparation, and to question matters of representation and voice in those struggles.
